Love this so much Linda - watched it twice now!! Please do more of these videos. I bet that drink is so nice. Maybe like mead? Anyway the sweet sounds good too - I have never heard of it as obviously we don't have maple trees here (though we can get the syrup). Is it like honeycomb?

PS "Acer" is the Latin for the genus (first part of the name) of the Maple. When I used to lead tree/wild plant walks I would always explain our trees thus: We have a tree called Field Maple which is found in hedgerows and the leaves are same shape as your maple, only a lot smaller. So I would ask people "what does this leaf remind you of?/what country's flag does it remind you of?" And then it would click.

Field Maple is "Acer campestre" (campestre means "field" I think). Sycamore, again with leaves akin to the Maple, is "Acer pseudoplatinus" (like the Plane tree). Then you get all those fancy garden varieties, I think from Japan which people just call "Acers".

I have always wondered if we can get a kind of syrup from our native maple.....

Lots of love from England xx
